Episode 093 - How to believe in yourself, even when

An episode about believing in yourself. Even when.

Even when you are feeling scared.

Even when you are feeling overwhelmed.

Even when you are doubting that you can get better.

And I get it.

Over 10 years ago, after living with my illness for nearly 3 years, I had to believe that I could either figure out my health struggles, or I could keep on feeling rubbish about it.

I decided that my self-doubt was no longer a valid reason for missing out on my life, on being a runner, for something more than existing. Everything changed.

I’m asking, what about you? Are you ready?

If you’d like to know more on how to shift your stories, reach out to me to see if my SHIFT to alignment coaching programme is a fit for you.

Hello loves,

Today I want to take a few minutes to talk to you about believing in yourself.

Life is pretty good when you no longer have to worry about how you’re going to get through the day.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying this is a one-pill-cure-all. If only that could truly exist. There’ll always be more stories that come up, more dragons to be slayed, new trigger discoveries to be found.

But that is no reason to keep failing yourself. To keep rejecting yourself. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being able to recognise the patterns. And once you’ve learned them in one area of life, then you can start applying it to other areas of life. Sometimes you recognise them quickly, and sometimes it takes a while longer. My baby grief story being a classic example. What’s key here is that you don’t beat yourself up for it. Take responsibility for your behaviour, acknowledge what you didn’t like about the other person’s behaviour, and learn from it.

You have to be as passionate about getting healthier as you are about the crappy stuff going on in your life. You need to give a shit about where you want to be heading instead of fighting yourself about how hard it is to change.

A very long time ago, I used to crew for a motorbike race team. One of the constant messages that we said over and over again is that you look in the direction of where you want to go, because that’s the direction you’re heading. When you ride a bike, or drive a car at very fast speeds it’s a lot easier to notice that if you’re looking over to the verge then the vehicle starts pointing that way too. When you’re pootling along slowly, it’s not so easy to notice.

The reticular activation system in our brain means we notice what we’re paying attention to. Decide you want a new car and it’s going to be blue and you’ll see blue cars everywhere. If I tell you to not think about elephants, elephants are there in your mind.

So when you put so much time, energy, and focus into how hard it is to get better, what do you think you’re going to get? If you spend your time thinking about what you’re going to do to get better, and what you’re willing to try, what do you think you’ll get?

And one thing that you need to be willing to do, is to change how you think about yourself. Don’t fail yourself before you even give it shot to find out if you fail or not. And really, you can’t fail. All failure is an experience to learn from so that next time you try something different.

I figured out what I needed to do day in and day out to be healthier, happier, and live my life on my own terms. My life was on the line. The life I really wanted.

I want better for you, and I want you to want better for you.

It is better to go to bed each night exhausted from being the person you want to be, than to go to bed each night exhausted from being the person you don’t want to be.

The steps of the process are the negotiations, the acceptances, and learning to let go of judgement. To overcome feeling bad about yourself, not liking yourself, and doing it anyway.

There’s only one reason why we ever quit something, and that’s because we are fed up with our own thinking. And you can change that by being willing to change the conversations you have with yourself.

This is one of the things that we work on in my SHIFT to Alignment programme as we work through your mindset blocks into the most aligned, powerful and magical version of yourself. And now you can have a taster of that in a free mini SHIFT that I’m creating. Five bite-sized units that you complete at your own pace. You can get on the waitlist at lifeinalign.com/ minishift.

How are you going to spend the next 30 days? Are you going to be a bit scared, and figure it out anyway? Are you going to decide that you deserve better?

And remember – you are worth it, and you get to choose.

Have a lovely day.
